Nation Builders Of Singapore: A film by Martyn See

Here is a video by Martyn See on the back alleys and streets of Singapore, detailing what is really happening to the senior citizen in Singapore, amidst all the talk about Singapore in an economic boom..( This is quite a long clip coming to abt 14 min)

How many time have we passed by these people? The ones that we pushed away when they try to sell tissue from us or the old lady cleaner in the food court even?

There are more and more vagrant nowadays and most of them are old people or senior citizens as the gov call them.. We may be able to hold our breath whenever we pass by them , treat them as the Invisible Man when they are near or even try not to walk those “dirty” back lanes where we might see them.

This was a paliamentary debate between Lily Neo and the MCYS Minister Vivian Balakrishnan:

Dr Lily Neo: Sir, I want to check with the Minister again when he said on the strict criteria on the entitlement for PA recipients. May I ask him what is his definition of “subsistence living”? Am I correct to say that, out of $260 per month for PA recipients, $100 goes to rental, power supply and S&C and leaving them with only $5 a day to live on? Am I correct to say that any basic meal in any hawker centre is already $2.50 to $3.00 per meal? Therefore, is it too much to ask for just three meals a day as an entitlement for the PA recipients?

Dr Vivian Balakrishnan: How much do you want? Do you want three meals in a hawker centre, food court or restaurant?

So as our ministers have a rise in payroll, shouldn’t they take a step back and help these homeless people? Why is it that they are so eager to increase the pay of the , say, 30% top people and not bother about the lowest paid 30% ?Must we continue to ignore them and one day, we may have to face the fate ourselves ? Please, get out of your car and stop the decay that is eating at this beautiful city of ours..
